It's not always about winning
Today, I want to talk about something a lot of anglers (and a lot of other people) often forget about. It’s not always about winning. Yeah, we all want to win. We all want to be the one that shines in the glory of the being the winner. But, not everyone can be the winner every time. Consistency is the key.
When it comes to fishing. Every day is different. No two days are exactly the same. Different things effect the fishing. Heck, a few degree difference in water temperature can make a huge difference at times. Sometimes, the fish are pressured from other anglers throughout the day, or other days. You think you may have it figured out. But, things will change the next day, and completely throw you off. For tournament fishing, you need to adapt with the changes. You’re not always going to be the one to win it. But, this is where being consistent comes into play.
The past two months have been great for me. I’ve learned a lot of new things that will help me adapt with changes during a tournament. I’ve gotten back-to-back second place finishes, and I’m sitting fourth in the points, going into the halfway point of the season. I’ve very happy, and proud, of where I am right now. Yeah, I’ll admit I really want to win. But, I’m happy with my finishes the past two months. My two second place finishes, have really put it into perspective for me. I’m being consistent with my finishes, slowing moving up in points, and continuing to do well and show that I can compete with the top guys on the trails.
That’s what you have to think about. It’s okay if you don’t win. Just stay focused, adapt with changes, and be consistent. You may be getting second, third, or even fourth place finishes. For every good finish you have, shows what you can do. You may finish second or third, and be a few places behind the leader in points. But, that leader could have a bad tournament, move down in points, and bump you up. You could go all season without a single win, but being consistent can, in fact, make you the champion at the end of the season. No matter what happens, always remember, just keep fishing!
